Degrees/Certificates:
I received both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Elementary Education from the University of Evansville. As part of my undergraduate studies I was fortunate to be a member of the charter class to study at the University of Evansville's Study Centre in Grantham, England. What a wonderful experience!
Biography:
I have been teaching for 33 years and can remember wanting to be a teacher from the time I was in third grade. My first teaching position was as a Basic Math Instructor at the Breckinridge Job Corps Center (now Earl C. Clemens Job Corps Center) in Morganfield, Kentucky. I remained there a year and then moved back to Indianapolis, my hometown, where I taught first grade for three years at Fortville Elementary School. Upon returning to Evansville, I worked as a tutor and a substitute teacher until I was offered a position at St.Wendel School in 1980. I have been at St. Wendel ever since and have had the opportunity to teach second grade, third grade, and fourth grade, as well as begin St. Wendel's first kindergarten program 17 years ago. My first kindergartners are now seniors in college! I have been nominated six times for the Diocesan Teacher of the Year Award and was the recipient of the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award in 1996. I have also been listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers.
I reside in Evansville with my husband, Bob. We have two adopted children, Ryan and Kelli. Bob and I served as foster parents for two years during which time we were able to care for nine children.
Fun Fact:
It is interesting to note that the curriculum that I am teaching my kindergartners today is basically the same curriculum I was teaching my first graders over 30 years ago. No wonder I am constantly telling my kindergartners to "give their brains a kiss". Kindergartners today are so smart!

Kindergarten is a magical year. It is a year in which the children learn through playing, cooking, watching, listening, acting, exploring, asking questions, reading and writing. We begin each day with prayer. In religion we learn about God's great love for us, that He is always present with us, and that we can always talk with Him through prayer. Many of our activities revolve around the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent. Through integration of The Land of the Letter People Program and the Building Blocks framework, the children are offered a strong phonics foundation. Our reading instruction revolves around literature and poetry selections which allow the children to develop and use language patterns as they begin to read and write. Individual Take-Home books come home throughout the year to allow the children to practice reading and sounding out new words. Developmental writing skills begin to emerge through guided, shared, interactive, and journal writing activities. The Land of the Letter People Program also integrates social studies, science, and art into our total program as we learn about people, places, and times; participate in hands-on and interactive science activities; and learn about famous aritists. Our Math Their Way Program is designed to help the children build basic math concepts by engaging them in hands-on activities, relating math to the real world, and encouraging a variety of problem solving techniques. Our kindergarten program also includes snack time, center time, rest time, and music, art, physical education, and computer classes.
