Biography

I've been teaching for 33 years, 8 of those years here at St. Wendel.  I'm married to Justin Clements who works for the Catholic Diocese and is the author of three books.  We have one son, John, who is program director and radio personality for a Christian rock station in Tampa, Florida, which is owned by the Diocese of St. Petersburg.  He is now the morning show host from 6-10 a.m. (www.spiritfm905.com).

My husband and I are members of St. Agnes Church and of their choir; Justin is the organist.  I enjoy walking for an hour every day, doing pilates, and teaching folk dancing to my students.  Since I'm the oldest of 17 children, it just seemed only natural to work with young people as a career.  I have a special affection for St. Wendel because my mother was born, raised, and married in this parish.

I love working with your children and in the little time we have together for music, I hope to give them as many opportunities as possible to experience all of the facets of music.  Their enthusiasm keeps me going.

The main goal of our music program is to teach our students to recognize and appreciate music as an essential ingredient in their daily lives now and later on as adults.

Our music series, along with many supplemental materials, will help them appreciate music from other cultures and times, read musical notation, perform music, and create their own.

In our classes, the students have opportunities for playing instruments from (K-8) kazoos, bells, musical tubes (boomwhackers), assorted percussion instruments, autoharp and (Grades 4-8) recorders.  We have many opportunities to learn the dances of our own ancestors as well as those of other cultures.

The students share what they've learned, for each other in class, as well as performing at PTO meetings, a Thanksgiving or Christmas program for grades K-4 and a spring musical for grades 5-8.

We give them the opportunity to experience a live performance by the Philharmonic Orchestra, and a performance by the Evansville Dance Company.  In January, there is an opportunity for students to perform at the ISSMA individual voice solo or ensemble music contest at the University of Evansville and the "Circle the State With Song" Festival in March at the high school in Vincennes.  They have on-campus opportunities to see live musical drama with artists such as Tales and Scales.

March is music month and I'm planning a music career day.  During Catholic Schools Week, we plan to have a 50's dance for the student body.

My goal is to intruduce more Christian rock music to the students as opposed to some of the distasteful secular music they're exposed to.
